Making Marucci Bats

With bay doors open to the miniature ball field in the Marucci backyard,
Jack can see his kids and neighborhood friends play through nine innings while he
turns the bats. An old television shows major league action in grainy Technicolor,
the commentary just audible over the shop fan spinning on a warm spring morning
in Baton Rouge. If you thought Americana was a thing of past, think again.
Typical of the Marucci approach to all things baseball, Jack built his wood shop
by hand, angling the dual barn-style doors to catch the breeze and a good hustle
in the outfield. Every so often, Marucci leaves a bat in progress to umpire a game
or settle a controversial call. In a way, the open doors of Marucci's little shop
are a portal to another time, a time almost past now, but not forgotten.
...Not least by Jack Marucci.
